MSCs engineered for cell therapy are needed for minimizing the need for autologous bone grafts used for filling bone voids or gaps, for reducing the inherent risks and complications associated with additional surgery of bone harvesting and for promoting bone repair. We develop and use appropriate devices containing biodegradable scaffolds and engineered MSCs for the repair of bone defects. These devices are engineered to deliver individual components or a combination of active components, including MSCs, modified MSCs, active protein therapeutics, plasmid DNA and biodegradable scaffolds.
